Add this multivitamin to your health regimen and you will soon be a believer. For one thing, Shaklee doesn't sell a product unless the ingredients are proven to be free of pesticides, herbicides, and other contaminants. Throughout the years, Shaklee has been known to stop making products when they couldn't get pure ingredients, regardless of the profits they would lose in the process. Furthermore, Shaklee doesn't leave costly ingredients like Biotin out of its vitamins, instead it uses vitamins that are more affordable to make. In each Vita-Lea multivitamin there are 23 vitamins and minerals, measured to levels clinically proven to be effective.
Be sure to take the Vita-Lea multivitamin regularly if you wish to see results. Vita-Lea works most efficiently when an adult takes 2 tablets per day. Simply take with a meal or light snack in the morning and before bed each and every day. As time goes on, you'll realize that the Vita-Lea multivitamin is working to build up your immune system – you’ll still be healthy when everyone around you gets sick. Despite the many stresses, activities, and minutia that go on in our lives, it is pertinent that we remain steadily aware of this critical issue.
Science continues to indicate that climate change is reaching a critical threshold. Due to the unstoppable nature of global warming, it's important for people to act quickly in order for us to drastically reduce CO2 emissions. If CO2 levels continue to rise in the atmosphere it will result in drought zones across almost all continents, rising sea levels, stronger tropical cyclones, the loss of soil moisture at higher temperatures, more intense precipitation and flooding, the changing seasonality of snowmelt, and the melting of glaciers.
These changes, combined with the extensive pollution of rivers and lakes and the human-induced depletion of groundwater, may render humanitarian shifts (like mass migration) as unavoidable.
On July 8, at Britain's Oxford at the Smith School World Forum on Enterprise and the Environment, Al Gore likened the threat of climate change to that of Hitler during World War II. "The level of awareness and concern among populations has not crossed the threshold where political leaders feel that they must change," he said. "The only way politicians will act is if awareness rises to a level to make them feel that (action is) a necessity." In his speech, Gore berated politicians, asserting that future generations would pose one of two questions to today's adults: "It will either be 'What were you thinking, didn't you see the North Pole melting before your eyes, didn't you hear what the scientists were saying?' or they will ask 'How is it you were able to find the moral courage to solve the crisis which so many said couldn't be solved?'"
| | | | The United Nations Millennium Development Goals are time-bound targets which are set to tackle the many dimensions of extreme poverty by 2015. They are as follows:
Goal 1: Eradicate extreme hunger and poverty. Goal 2: Achieve universal primary education.
Goal 3: Promote gender equality and empower women.
Goal 4: Reduce child mortality. Goal 5: Improve maternal health.
Goal 6: Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria, and other diseases.
Goal 7: Ensure environmental sustainability.
Goal 8: Develop a global partnership for development.
The Millennium Development Goals represent an unprecedented global effort in the fight to end extreme poverty. So far, progress has been uneven across the globe, with Sub-Saharan Africa the furthest behind in meeting the Goals. Millennium Promise is committed to helping the one billion people who live on less than a dollar a day meet the Millennium Development Goals and lift themselves out of extreme poverty. Shaklee has aligned its causes with the Millennium Development Goals in an effort to help developing nations meet those goals by 2015. Shaklee has committed to offseting 100% of their greenhouse gas emissions through 2009. Shaklee uses 100% green power for its U.S. operations and makes direct emission reductions through the installation of solar energy in Millennium Development villages in Kenya.
In the villages, the installation of solar-powered LED lanterns will replace inefficient and unhealthy kerosene wick lamps and will encourage renewable energy sources as a sustainable model. For the villagers, this means increased productivity, higher earning potential, and expanded hours for education. | | Good Words from CEO Roger Barnett | On business philosophy: Set a vision of what we can become and stay true to that, and conduct ourselves in a way that people will want to do business with us. On staying motivated: Motivation comes from believing in what you're doing. For instance, at Shaklee, I believe very strongly that we provide health and income opportunities to people all over the world.
On his guiding principle: (It’s) a little bit of the Golden Rule. If you help others it will be good for you as well. The world doesn't have to be a zero-sum place. My gain doesn't have to be your loss.
On success: (Success is) when you're content with what you have done. Many people are driven and have accomplished a lot, but I don't think that's success. My idea of success is making a positive impact on the world.
Personal goal: Eradicating malnutrition in the world. It's just one of those things that should not exist.
From "A conversation with Shaklee Corp. CEO Roger Barnett", San Francisco Business Times, Friday, September 21, 2007. |
| | Environmental Achievements, Past to Present | For 50 years, Shaklee has quietly led the way in environmental stewardship and support of social causes. A few notable milestones:
1970s - Shaklee introduces one of the first biodegradable laundry detergents free of phosphates, nitrates, and borates.
1989 - Shaklee helps build schools and health clinics; plants more than one million trees in Asia through a partnership with the American Himalayan Foundation, an organization chaired by Sir Edmund Hillary.
1998 - Shaklee becomes a charter partner of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Climate Wise Program, which set aggressive corporate-wide greenhouse gas reduction goals.
2000 - Shaklee becomes the first company in the world to obtain Climate Neutral™ certification by completely offsetting its CO2 emissions.
2006 - Shaklee is selected as a U.S. EPA Climate Leader, pledging to maintain a net zero impact on climate change and offset 100% of its greenhouse gas emissions through 2009.
2009 - Shaklee is 100% carbon neutral. The greenhouse gas inventories for 2008 covering all Shaklee operations worldwide (including US, Canada, Japan, China, Mexico, and Taiwan) were reviewed by a third party, Econergy International, in accordance with the World Resources Institute protocol for all six Kyoto-defined greenhouse gases. |
| | Zero Animal Testing at Shaklee | As a company that was founded on social responsibility, Shaklee does not, has not, and will not ever conduct animal testing. Additionally, Shaklee has never done business with any lab that conducts tests on animals. Years ago, Shaklee's corporate headquarters was bombed by an individual who mistakenly targeted the company for having performed tests on animals. This particular incident had nothing to do with Shaklee or its products. In fact, the animal testing was conducted separately by a pharmaceutical corporation that owned Shaklee at the time. Shaklee has been independently owned since 2004; however, the memory of this misguided act of violence occasionally creates confusion that mistakenly links Shaklee with animal testing. Nothing could be further from the truth and Shaklee proudly takes every opportunity to correct this record in the face of this controversy. | |
